SOROTI - Police in Soroti District are investigating the fatal stabbing of a 22-year-old man in a domestic dispute involving his wife and another man. The incident, which occurred early Tuesday morning in Ojiji Village, Ogwolo Parish, Katine Sub-county, has left the local community in shock.

The deceased, identified as Okwii Peter, also known as Okwir, was a peasant and resident of Ogavana Trading Center in Agora Village, Katine Sub-county. The two suspects, Erebu Robert and Apio Kevin, have been arrested in connection with the murder.

According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 4:00 a.m. on January 2, 2025. Okwii had gone to his mother-in-law’s home in Ojiji Village to confront his wife, Apio Kevin, about their marital issues. Upon arrival, he allegedly found her with Erebu Robert, a 24-year-old peasant and resident of Amutu Village, Katine Sub-county.

The confrontation led to a heated quarrel between Okwii and Erebu, escalating into a physical fight. Erebu allegedly stabbed Okwii twice in the stomach. Despite his severe injuries, Okwii managed to flee to his brother-in-law, Egwau Raymond’s home, where he collapsed in front of the house.

Egwau, a 27-year-old peasant and resident of Ojiji Village, was awakened by Okwii’s cries for help. Upon discovering him in a pool of blood, he alerted neighbors and later reported the matter to Olwelai Police Post at 5:17 a.m.

A team led by District CID Officer D/ASP Ojok Richard Tom, including the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO), detectives, and uniformed personnel, visited the scene to collect evidence. Both Erebu Robert and Apio Kevin were arrested and detained.

The body of the deceased was transported to Nakatunya City Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

RPC Damalie Nachuha, in a statement, condemned the act and urged the public to seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts.

“We strongly encourage individuals to use dialogue and mediation to address disputes. Violence only leads to unnecessary loss of life, as seen in this tragic incident,” she said.

The police further urged anyone with additional information related to the case to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation.
