SERERE, UGANDA – Learners and teachers at Akuoro-Olupe Primary School in Serere District have reason to celebrate following the successful completion of a major school infrastructure project aimed at improving the learning environment.

The project was implemented by RHOI-Uganda with generous support from the Reiner Meutsch Foundation (FLY & HELP) and Nepal Inzlingen eV, in partnership with the local community and the Serere District Local Government.

According to a statement from the organization, the intervention has delivered a fully furnished three-classroom block, a boys' latrine, an integrated girls' wash facility, a school kitchen, latrine  for People with Disabilities(PWDs) and a hand-pump borehole.

The new facilities are expected to significantly enhance sanitation, access to clean water, and the overall quality of education at the school, which has been grappling with inadequate infrastructure.

The construction of a dedicated girls' wash facility is particularly seen as a major step towards promoting menstrual hygiene management and keeping girl children in school, while the borehole will provide a reliable source of safe water for both learners and the neighboring community.

The school kitchen will also boost the school feeding program, which is critical for pupil retention and concentration in class.

RHOI-Uganda commended its partners, the Reiner Meutsch Foundation (FLY & HELP), Nepal Inzlingen eV, the community of Akuoro-Olupe, and Serere District Local Government for their collaborative effort in making the project a success.

The organization reaffirmed its commitment to supporting education and community development in Teso and across Uganda through sustainable school infrastructure.
