State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang has issued a legal ultimatum to former Kapir County parliamentary aspirant Simon Julius Engeku, threatening a Shs500 million defamation suit unless he removes a TikTok video alleging that the minister failed to repay a Shs20 million debt.

In a formal legal notice issued on October 27, 2026, Ogwang’s lawyers, E. Wamimbi Advocates & Solicitors, gave Engeku until October 30 to remove the video, publish a factual clarification with equal prominence and deliver a written apology.

The lawyers said Ogwang denies borrowing the money or having knowledge of the alleged transaction. They described the allegations as false, malicious and damaging to the minister’s reputation.

The notice warns that failure to meet the demands would prompt legal proceedings seeking Shs500 million in damages, together with interest and legal costs. The notice communicates the minister’s intention to pursue legal remedies but does not establish that court proceedings have been filed.

Engeku alleges that the money was advanced to Ogwang during General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s visit to Soroti City in August 2023. He claims the transaction was facilitated through intermediaries and that the minister undertook to repay the money within two days.

Engeku has identified former Soroti City LC5 chairperson Simon Peter Edory Eku, Richard Elimu and former Soroti District Resident District Commissioner Salim Komakech as alleged intermediaries.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged transaction, including whether the money changed hands and what role, if any, the named individuals played, have not been independently established.
