The Kumam Paramount King, His Royal Highness Papa Raphael Otaya, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Pope Francis, describing him as a compassionate and visionary leader who deeply cared for humanity.
Pope Francis passed away on April 21, 2025, at the age of 88, following a stroke that led to irreversible cardiac arrest. His passing marks the end of a significant era in the global Catholic Church.
Speaking from Soroti, HRH Otaya praised the pontiff’s unwavering commitment to social justice, his tireless dedication to the poor and marginalized, and his remarkable efforts to foster interfaith dialogue.
"The Pope was known for his kindness, humility, and willingness to engage with people from all walks of life," said Otaya. "He championed the cause of the vulnerable and advocated for peace, justice, and compassion."
Otaya further highlighted Pope Francis’s efforts in promoting unity among different faiths and cultures, emphasizing the late Pope’s strong stance on environmental stewardship and the care for what he termed “our common home.”
As a spiritual and cultural leader, HRH Otaya expressed his solidarity with the Catholic faithful during this time of mourning, reaffirming the shared values of love, justice, and peace.
Pope Francis’s funeral will be held on April 26, 2025, at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome at 11:00 a.m. Leaders and faithful from around the world are expected to gather to honor a man whose legacy continues to inspire hope and compassion across generations.
