KITGUM – Renowned musician and National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobilizer, Lucky Joyce Bosmic Otim, was granted cash bail on Tuesday, July 21st, 2026, by the Kitgum Chief Magistrate’s Court. The release comes exactly one week after the artist was remanded to Kitgum Government Prison.

Chief Magistrate Robert Ekirita ordered Otim to pay a cash bail of UGX 2 million to secure his temporary release. As part of the bail conditions, the court has strictly prohibited the musician from discussing the ongoing case in public or on social media platforms. Additionally, Otim is barred from interfering with any witnesses as the legal proceedings continue. He is expected to return to court on August 4th, 2026.

To secure his release, Otim presented five sureties who each executed a non-cash bond of UGX 2 million. Among them were Kilak South Member of Parliament Dr. Gilbert Olanya, Otim’s wife Ms. Milfrey Adong, fellow musician Alex Ojera Morugut, Mr. Bernard Ocaya Canogura (also known as Olangkak), and his uncle, Mr. Felix Odida.

Otim faces charges of causing grievous harm under Section 219 of the Penal Code Act. The prosecution, led by Yusuf Ssozi, alleges that on May 3rd, 2026, the accused—alongside several others who remain at large—assaulted fellow artist and blogger Okello Alfred Joe, popularly known as "KD Kristo Hammer." The incident reportedly took place at Corner Mission in Pager Division, Kitgum Municipality.

During the proceedings, Otim’s legal team, comprised of lawyers Robert Okot and Febiuos Ayella, successfully presented verified residency documents to the court. While the prosecution did not oppose the revised bail application, the complainant, KD Kristo Hammer, expressed concerns regarding his personal safety following the assault. Chief Magistrate Ekirita addressed these concerns, ruling that any security issues would be formally handled and addressed during the course of the trial.
