Life has taken a melodious turn for Rose Mary, affectionately known as Toto Ariko, the original composer of the beloved Teso Anthem. Months after capturing the hearts of thousands in a viral video posted by digital platform Teso Vibez, Toto Ariko can finally smile following a generous UGX 2 million cash gift from the Iteso of North America Association (INAA).
The funds are specifically aimed at helping her reproduce the iconic Teso Anthem in a professional recording studio, bringing the classic composition up to modern audio standards.
The heartwarming journey began a few months ago when a lighthearted video of Toto Ariko went viral on TikTok and other social media platforms via Teso Vibez. During an exclusive follow-up interview with the platform, the composer expressed a heartfelt wish: she wanted the Teso Anthem to be re-recorded in a top-tier studio to match contemporary sound quality and modern music technology.
That dream was officially realized on Wednesday. While receiving the UGX 2 million cash package at the Sports View Hotel in Kireka, a jubilant Toto Ariko expressed profound gratitude to the diaspora community for answering her call.
“I want to thank INAA for making this come true after my funny TikTok video,” Toto Ariko said, beaming with joy. “It’s indeed a blessing for Teso.”
With the financial backing now secured, the original composer is poised to head into the studio to give the historic anthem the high-definition production it deserves, ensuring that future generations of Iteso can enjoy the cultural masterpiece in pristine quality.
Aside from celebrating her musical windfall, Toto Ariko also used the platform to clear the air regarding a past controversy. She issued a public apology to Veritas Radio, addressing previous remarks where she had referred to the broadcaster as a "local station."
Clarifying the misunderstanding, Ariko explained that she had been misquoted. She noted that she only meant to highlight Veritas Radio’s vital role as a grassroots community broadcaster, rather than use the term in a derogatory way.
With her studio wish granted and past tensions smoothed over, Toto Ariko’s legacy is officially getting the modern upgrade it has long deserved, uniting the Iteso community both at home and abroad in celebration of their cultural heritage.
