Hon. Anita Among was yesterday voted as the deputy speaker of parliament of Uganda.
Anita is a Ugandan accountant, lawyer and politician.
Born in Bukedea on 23rd November 1973, Among attended local schools for her primary and secondary education and graduated with a Bachelors degree in business administration from Makerere University in 2005.
Among graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from Kampala University in 2018. She also attained a qualification as a chartered certified accountant.
Work History:
From 1998 to 2006, the deputy speaker worked at Centenary bank, one of the largest commercial banks in the country; at the time she had left in 2006, Anita had risen to the rank of branch manager
For ten years prior to her election to parliament, she served as a lecturer in accounting at Kampala International University.
For two parliamentary election cycles in 2007 and 2011, Among lost district woman representative seat to Rose Akol from National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Among, the longtime member of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) contested as an independent in 2016 and won the seat.
In 2020, She officially joined NRM after falling out with FDC and won the Bukedea district woman MP seat in 2020 unopposed.
