SOROTI - The police in Soroti City East Division have arrested a 54-year-old businessman, identified as Alaku Patrick, to assist in the investigation of the suspected murder of 25-year-old Frida Peace Apieno. Apieno, a resident of Owolo, Otatai Ward, Soroti City East Division, was found dead under suspicious circumstances today’s morning, in Opiyo Cell, Opuyo Ward, Eastern Division, Soroti City.
The arrest follows a report made by Otim Ricard, the 63-year-old LC1 Chairman of Opiyo Cell, after children on their way to school discovered the body of a woman lying partially clothed. They immediately informed the chairman, who then contacted the police. The case was officially documented under CRB 336/2024 at the Soroti East Police Division.
According to preliminary findings, Apieno had been estranged from her family since 2023 and had been living in an unknown location in Soroti. It is further alleged that she had previously been in a relationship with Alaku Patrick, but the two had separated months earlier due to domestic violence issues.
A police team visited and documented the scene of the incident, and the body of the victim was transported to Soroti City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
“We appeal to the public to avoid all forms of violence and to make use of the authorities to resolve their differences,” said ASP Obukulem Edison, the acting PRO of East Kyoga, in a statement.
