KATAKWI - Royal Highness Papa Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng, the Emorimor and cultural leader of the Iteso, has called upon the people of Katakwi District to maintain peace and avoid violence as the election season approaches. The Emorimor made this appeal during his visit to Ngariam Boma grounds in Katakwi district on 24th, January, 2024 as part of his ongoing clan tours in the Teso region.
Addressing the gathering, Emorimor emphasized the importance of peaceful elections and urged the community to break the cycle of political violence that has historically plagued the district during election periods. "Katakwi is known for political violence in every political season. Let us hope this time it won’t happen again," he said, encouraging residents to work together for the region's stability and development.
The Emorimor also reminded the people to focus on family welfare and development rather than being drawn into political conflicts. "Vote peacefully for your leaders, promote peace, and bring in development. Don’t forget your families that need your support. Let those who need your votes come looking for you, rather than moving to trading centers," he advised.
Katakwi District has experienced political tensions in previous elections, but community leaders are optimistic that the message of peace from the cultural leader will resonate with the people. The Emorimor's call for calm was supported by the presence of a minister and several local leaders who echoed the need for a harmonious election season.
The clan tours, organized by the Iteso Cultural Union, aim to strengthen governance, promote cultural practices, and address key developmental issues in Teso. The engagements also serve as a platform to educate communities about the opportunities in the region, such as oil exploration, and to mobilize resources for constructing the Palace.
As Katakwi prepares for the elections, the Emorimor’s message serves as a reminder that unity and peace are essential for the district's progress. His leadership highlights the role of cultural institutions in fostering harmony and development during critical moments in the community's journey.
