SOROTI - In a groundbreaking initiative, Action of Love International, a non-profit organization, has reached out to individuals with disabilities in the Teso sub-region. Today marked a significant milestone as the organization distributed not only wheelchairs but also heifers to those under their compassionate care.
The noteworthy giveaway event, graced by distinguished dignitaries, unfolded at the AOL office in Soroti City. A total of 26 individuals had their lives enriched with the provision of both cows and wheelchairs.
Jefferson Kandi, the dedicated Executive Director of the organization, expressed sincere joy as they celebrated the distribution of wheelchairs and heifers. He emphasized a belief rooted in the idea that every person, regardless of their abilities, deserves access to a life filled with dignity and meaning.
Kandi eloquently described the wheelchairs as more than mere objects, emphasizing them as pathways to boundless opportunities, highlighting how the tools enable recipients to move, fulfill dreams, access education, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Through livestock rearing, persons living with disabilities can not only survive but also generate income, support their families, and foster their independence—all while making valuable contributions to the agricultural sector.
"On behalf of our organization and our donors, I would like to express how humbled and honored we are to witness the empowerment of our PWD community through the gift of wheelchairs and heifers. Let today serve as a poignant reminder that no barrier is too great, no goal is unachievable, and no dream is beyond reach," Kandi passionately remarked.
Opio Emmanuel, Chairperson of the AOL Board, added a touch of hope to the proceedings, stating that the project not only restores hope but also brings joy to the hearts of those benefiting. He earnestly requested beneficiaries to collaborate closely with the organization to maximize the benefits.
From Kapujan sub-county, LC3 Iremaut Micheal expressed gratitude for the substantial support, highlighting the formation of saving groups among persons living with disabilities. He urged responsible ownership of the donated property and encouraged a continued culture of love for these children.
Meanwhile, Benard Odikor, LC3 Chairperson of Kagwara Odikor sub-county in Serere district, advocated for educational opportunities for disabled children who have the capability. He acknowledged the positive impact of AOL, revealing that some children who were once hidden are now visible.
In a stern message, Odikor warned against selling the property of disabled persons and pledged consequences for violators. He emphasized the need for genuine commitment, brushing aside empty promises of support.
Mayor Paul Omer of Soroti City East appealed to AOL for a comprehensive report from Bethesda Hospital regarding the causes of disability. He stressed the importance of addressing behavioral issues and urged the organization's directors to expand their vision.
Stephen Olebe, the Speaker of Soroti District, delved into the complex nature of disability, acknowledging its presence and emphasizing its unpreventable nature even in the womb, as stated by medical experts.
He further recognized the expensive nature of the wheelchairs, expressing personal inability to afford one and appealed to beneficiaries to preserve these valuable assets.
The RCC of Soroti City, Peter Pex Paak, conveyed gratitude to the organization and parents for their care of the children. He urged continued love, inclusivity, and the avoidance of segregation. Paak promised close collaboration with AOL to ensure an abundance of provisions for the children's well-being.
Various beneficiaries, who shared their thoughts with this website, expressed appreciation for the organization's profound gesture of providing mobility aids and heifers. They strongly believe that these gifts will bring a positive impact to their lives and vowed to care for them with utmost dedication.
