KUMI - The territorial police of Kumi District have arrested and detained a 13-year-old juvenile, Etiang Ivan, a Primary Five pupil and resident of Nyero in Kumi District, at Kumi CPS.
The arrest is in connection with the alleged murder of a 14-year-old girl, Titin Jane, which occurred on June 26, 2024, at around 12:50 PM at Auruku Ominai Primary School, Ogoma Sub-county, Kumi District.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place while the students were playing in class and picked up a disagreement that escalated into a scuffle.Etiang Ivan allegedly boxed Titin Jane on the breast, leading to her collapse.
The Head Teacher of the school was informed, and Titin Jane was rushed to Nyero Health Center, where she was pronounced dead by the medical officer.
A case of murder was registered at CPS Kumi vide CRB:394/2024. The body of the deceased was taken to Atutur Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
In the aftermath of the incident, relatives of the deceased mobilized and attacked the family of the suspect, looting several properties, including goats, sheep, and cows, and burning temporary and semi-temporary houses.
According to Obukulem Edison,the acting PRO of East Kyoga, the public has been cautioned against taking the law into their hands.
