PALLISA - A 29-year-old woman suffering from anemia tragically passed away after spending seven days at the home of Pastor Christopher Okupa in Owagalye village, Pallisa Sub County, where she had been subjected to intense healing prayers.

Stella Akurut, a housewife and resident of Kaboloi Parish, succumbed to her condition on Monday morning, leaving behind a devastated family and community.

According to SP Samuel Semewo, the police spokesperson for the Bukedi North region, Akurut had been battling a critical illness and was initially receiving treatment at a local clinic. After her condition failed to improve, the health worker attending to her discovered she was severely anemic and urgently referred her to Pallisa General Hospital for a blood transfusion.

However, instead of following the medical advice, Akurut’s family opted to take her to Pastor Okupa, who led the Apetete (Akisim) Church. They believed that through his prayers, Akurut could experience miraculous healing. Unfortunately, her condition worsened, and after seven days at the pastor’s home, she was pronounced dead.

The incident was reported to Kameke police post, and an investigation, registered as case PAL DEF 017/2024, was launched where police recovered several exhibits from the pastor’s home as Pastor Okupa is currently on the run.

Akurut’s body was taken to Pallisa General Hospital for a postmortem as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
