Ngora District - A shocking case of incest has rocked the Ngora district in eastern Uganda thus leaving many in shock after a 22-year-old man, Sami Oliba, was arrested for impregnating his 16-year-old sister, Regina Acheto.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with community leaders and family members denouncing Oliba's actions.
According to Sam Okiria, the clan chairperson of Atekok Ikaalen, Oliba and Acheto had been secretly involved in an intimate relationship. The relationship was only discovered after Acheto became pregnant.
Okiria revealed that Oliba had even gone as far as tattooing Acheto's name on his thigh, a gesture that highlights the depth of their illicit relationship.
The couple's secret was exposed after Okiria led an investigation and tracked them down to Gweri Sub County in Soroti district, where they had fled to avoid detection. Upon their arrest, the clan convened an emergency meeting to discuss the matter and determine the appropriate course of action.
Oliba's mother, Joyce Atebo, has also spoken out against her son's actions. According to Atebo, Oliba had been staying with his uncle for some time and wasn't aware of his relationship with Acheto. Atebo condemned her son's behavior and authorized the clan to hand over the case to the police.
"We are deeply disturbed by this incident, and we believe that the law should take its course," Atebo said.
The clan decided to hand Oliba over to the police, where he will face charges for incest. The police are currently investigating the matter and gathering evidence to build a strong case against Oliba.
