Apedu Andrew has been elected Local Council II (LC2) chairperson for Kengere Ward in Soroti City East Division, after emerging unopposed in the local council elections.

Andrew’s unopposed election gives him the mandate to lead the ward at the grassroots level, where he is expected to work closely with residents and other local leaders to address community needs and promote development.

Speaking after being declared elected, Andrew expressed gratitude to the people of Kengere Ward for the confidence they had placed in him, promising to serve all residents fairly and without discrimination.

“I am humbled by the trust the people of Kengere Ward have placed in me. This is not simply a position; it is a responsibility to serve our community and respond to the needs of our people,” Andrew said.

He called on residents to unite and work together with their leaders, saying cooperation would be essential in tackling challenges affecting the ward.

“I want to assure the people of Kengere that I will be a chairperson for everyone. We must put aside our differences and focus on issues that can improve the lives of our people,” he said.

Andrew also pledged to promote accountability, transparency and community participation in local leadership. He encouraged residents to actively participate in identifying and addressing challenges affecting their communities.

The new Kengere Ward LC2 leadership team will be headed by Andrew, with Amechu Robert as Vice Chairperson and Eliku Frank Mackay as Secretary, Kwebiha Jude will serve as Secretary for Finance, while Jesca Odiit takes responsibility for Information and Education.

Ruth Kulume was elected Secretary for Production and Environmental Protection, while Omolo Muhamed will serve as Secretary for Defence.

Ebitu Bruno, the Electoral Commission Parish Supervisor for Kengere Ward, oversaw the electoral process.

Andrew now begins his term with a call for unity, accountability and collective action as Kengere Ward seeks to strengthen grassroots leadership and advance community development.
