In a major crackdown on local crime, security agencies in Amuria and Kapelebyong districts have arrested 35 suspected youth gang members following a joint, intelligence-led overnight operation.
The suspects are accused of terrorizing residents across several areas, specifically targeting Willa Sub-county, Apeduru Sub-county, and Akoromit in Kapelebyong District. According to security reports, 22 of the arrested individuals hail from Kapelebyong District, while the remaining 13 are from neighboring Amuria District.
The sweeping operation is part of broader, ongoing efforts by the respective district security committees to dismantle criminal networks, curb rising insecurity, and restore lasting peace along the border of the two districts. Authorities have strongly reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the lives and property of all residents.
In the wake of the arrests, security officials have issued a stern warning to holidaymakers and students, urging them to steer clear of notorious youth gangs during the school break. Authorities emphasized that anyone caught participating in criminal activities will face swift arrest—risking missing the crucial third term of the academic year.
Investigations into the detained suspects are ongoing as security forces work to dismantle the remaining elements of the criminal rings operating in the region.
