SOROTI — The Deputy Speaker of Soroti District Council, Hon. Denis Opio Enyaku, was reportedly arrested on Sunday evening, September 13, and was in police custody connection with a case involving Parish Development Model (PDM) funds intended for beneficiaries in Kabong District.

According to preliminary information obtained by this publication, Enyaku was transferred to Kaabong Police Station on Monday, September 14, for further handling of the matter.

The officer in charge of East Kyoga Police confirmed to this publication that Enyaku had been arrested and was in police custody, but declined to disclose details of the allegations or the circumstances surrounding the case.

The allegations concern the processing of PDM funds intended for eligible beneficiaries in Kabong District.

Preliminary information indicates that some names and personal details appearing on the Kabong beneficiary lists allegedly belonged to residents of Soroti District.

It is also alleged that some individuals whose details were reportedly used in processing the funds did not receive the money.

However, the number of people allegedly affected and the total amount of money involved had not been established by the time of filing this report.

The Soroti District Communication Officer told this publication that he had only heard about the matter and was yet to verify the information.

The matter is reportedly being handled in Kabong because the funds under investigation were intended for beneficiaries in the district. Authorities are expected to establish through investigations how the alleged discrepancies occurred and whether any individual or institution bears responsibility.

Efforts to obtain further information from other relevant officials were unsuccessful by the time of publication.
