KAMPALA - Teso students enrolled at Kampala International University, under their cultural organization known as TESDA, joined the wider Iteso community in mourning the loss of former ICU Prime Minister Papa Venassio Vance Omome. Papa Vance Omome, who succumbed to illness on Friday, March 1st, 2024, was revered for his transformative leadership and profound impact on the Iteso community, spanning generations.
President Elect Emorimor Andrew Emuli of the Kampala International University Teso Development Students Association, together with the global community, paid tribute to Papa Vance Omome on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024. Speaking at a press conference held at Kampala International University's Library Gardens, President Elect Emorimor Andrew Emuli lauded Papa Vance Omome as more than a hero, emphasizing his dedication to uplifting Iteso youth and fostering cultural and political unity within Teso.
Many students from Kampala International University, affiliated with TESDA, expressed their profound sadness at Papa Vance Omome's passing, remembering him as an inspirational figure who championed unity and progress.
Stella Atukuri, recently elected vice president of TESDA, commended Papa Vance Omome for his advocacy on sensitive issues, particularly gender equality, highlighting his unwavering commitment to uniting people from all walks of life.
Political Youth Activist George William Ecungu, a law student at Kampala International University, attributed his enlightenment on the importance of cultural unity to Papa Vance Omome, describing him as a mentor and source of wisdom.
Papa Vance Omome, born on October 2nd, 1940, passed away on March 1st, 2024. His funeral is scheduled to be held on Saturday, March 9th, 2024, in Amuria District, where he will be laid to rest, leaving behind a legacy of unity and inspiration for future generations.
