NGORA - Ngora County's Member of Parliament, Hon. Juliet Achayo Lodou, has implored members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to unify and put an end to internal conflicts.
Achayo made this plea on Friday, April 19th, 2024, during her address as the chief guest at the belated NRM Day celebrations held at Ngora Seed Secondary School in Odwarat sub-county.
She cautioned that internal discord among party members was detrimental to their cause, ultimately hampering the party's progress.
"What is fracturing Ngora is the lack of unity within the party. Internal conflicts breed instability. Let us reconcile and operate as a cohesive unit if we aim to foster the party's growth," remarked Hon. Achayo.
She urged party members to uphold and embody the NRM party ideology and vision, which revolves around core principles such as patriotism, Pan-Africanism, socio-economic transformation, and democracy.
During her first term as Ngora County Member of Parliament, Achayo utilized the celebrations to urge all NRM candidates contesting in various elective positions not to undermine the party by running as independent candidates following the NRM primaries.
"I appeal to those who may not succeed in the primaries to remain patriotic and loyal to the party. Support our chosen candidates because the party's interests supersede individual aspirations," she added.
Achayo commended the Ngora district NRM party leadership for their remarkable efforts, particularly in constructing party offices and successfully attracting opposition members to join the ruling NRM party. Notably, Ben Eumu, the former district chairperson of Ngora and previously a mobilizer for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), recently joined the NRM.
John Okello, the Ngora district NRM chairperson, emphasized that despite challenges, the party continues to grow steadily, attributing this progress to the collective responsibility of its members.
Furthermore, Okello congratulated FDC supporters who switched allegiance to NRM, revealing that over 2,000 FDC members had joined NRM since his appointment as the district NRM chairperson.
While refraining from providing exact figures, Okello acknowledged the increasing number of NRM members following the recently concluded NRM registration exercise.
Stephen Ekoom, the Resident District Commissioner of Ngora, urged members of the public to embrace government initiatives aimed at enhancing livelihoods, such as the Emyooga program, Parish Development Model, and Youth Livelihood Program, among others.
As a contribution to support the NRM day celebrations, Achayo donated 5 million shillings, while Simon Julius Engeku and Hon. Lillian Aber, the Kitgum Woman MP who was expected to be the chief guest, each contributed 3 million shillings for the festivities.
