SOROTI - In a tragic turn of events, unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle have claimed the life of a student from Soroti Pharmaceutical College.
The incident unfolded at 9:00 PM in Campswahili, cell B 1 along Engunyu road in Soroti city east, sending shockwaves through the community.
According to ASP Edison Obukulem, who spoke with this site at the crime scene, the assailants fled with a bag containing an unspecified sum of money belonging to a local business owner who was ambushed alongside the deceased.
The victim, identified as Olinga, believed to be in his early 20s, was a student at Soroti Pharmaceutical College.
Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing moments, with one individual, who chose to remain anonymous, disclosing that the deceased attempted to intervene when one of the assailants brandished a firearm.
Tragically, his efforts to aid a friend, whose bag was being seized, resulted in his fatal shooting.
Friends of the late described him as sociable, hardworking, and focused on his studies as the mourn the loss of a promising individual who has left a profound impact in the community.
As investigations unfold, police cordoned off the crime scene, and the victim's body was transported to the mortuary for postmortem.
