A 56-year-old man has been apprehended by police following the alleged murder of his wife during a drunken altercation in Soroti City.
The incident took place on July 9, 2024, around 06:30 AM at Onyakai Cell, Amuru Ward, West Division, Soroti City.
The suspect, identified as Ejogu Francis, is accused of assaulting his wife, Ariago Hildah, 45, after she refused to give him money for alcohol.
According to reports, on July 8, 2024, the suspect and the deceased spent leisure time at Arapai market. Upon returning home that night, Ejogu Francis demanded money for more alcohol, which Ariago Hildah declined, an argument escalated into a physical altercation resulting in her death.
The incident was reported to police by Eriu Washington, Chairperson of LC1 Onyakai Cell, Amuru Ward, West Division, Soroti City. The suspect was subsequently arrested and detained at Soroti West Police Division where the case was registered under CRB: 122/2024.
A team of police officers, led by the DPC of Soroti West Police Division and SOCO, visited the crime scene where statements were recorded.
"We urge the public to refrain from violence and to report any grievances to the nearest police station or post," stated Police Acting PRO of East Kyoga, ASP Obukulem Edison, in a press release.
