SOROTI - The Iteso cultural leader, Papa Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng, has been urged to appoint ministers of the cabinet based on their potential and ability to contribute to the institution's greatness rather than favoritism and personal relationships.
While addressing guests at the first edition of the Teso Tourism Symposium held on Saturday, July 20th, at the Soroti Regional Museum, Capt. Echodu Ediau, a representative of the Uganda Wildlife Authority, emphasized the importance of appointing ministers capable of serving the Iteso community effectively.
"Appoint those who can do the work, not because they supported you with money," he added.
Capt. Ediau also expressed concern over individuals undermining the cultural institution through legal battles, urging them to cease such actions as they are driven by greed. "If we show respect to our leader, others will respect us. Those causing trouble should be arrested, taken away, and brought back after ten years when they are old," he suggested.
He further noted, "We Iteso do not imitate other chiefdoms. We lead with integrity and will continue to do so."
Capt. Emily Otekat, the guest of honor, also encouraged the Emorimor to select ministers based on their abilities rather than personal favors.
"Through you, the Prime Minister, advise the Emorimor that if you want ICU to be strong, a house divided against itself cannot stand. People are watching your actions. If the cabinet is divided, how will the Iteso develop? Speak with one voice. More than half of the ministers should be attending this event, but they are not here," he remarked.
