A recent surge in murder cases in Serere district has prompted the East Kyoga Police to launch a comprehensive crackdown on criminal activity.
According to police records, over 14 people have been killed in the past seven months, with most cases involving homicides.
This alarming trend has raised concerns among residents, and the police are taking swift action to restore peace and security in the area.
The latest incident occurred on August 5, 2024, when a 42-year-old woman was found strangled in her home in Odungura Egadu Village. This tragic event sent shockwaves through the community, and the police are working tirelessly to apprehend the perpetrators.
In response to the escalating violence, the East Kyoga Police have intensified operations in Serere, deploying additional personnel and resources to combat the rising crime wave as a special task force has been established to investigate the murder cases and bring the culprits to justice.
"We are taking a zero-tolerance approach to these senseless killings," said Asp Obukulem Edison, PRO East Kyoga. "We urge the community to cooperate with us and provide any information that can lead to the arrest and prosecution of perpetrators.
The police are working closely with local leaders and residents to gather intelligence and identify suspects as they are also engaging with local councils to address underlying issues contributing to the violence, such as poverty, unemployment, and substance abuse.
"We recognize that crime is often a symptom of deeper social and economic issues," said Asp Obukulem Edison. "We are working to address these underlying issues and create a safer, more secure environment for all residents."
The police further urged residents to report any suspicious activity or information that may help prevent further crimes. "We need the community's support to combat this rising tide of violence," said Asp Obukulem Edison. "Together, we can make Serere a safer place for everyone."
