Soroti Police have identified the two primary school pupils who tragically lost their lives in a road accident on Thursday, 12th September, in Opuyo ward, Soroti City East.
The victims, Eripo Jonathan (7) and Akolla Vivian(7), were pupils at St. Enoch Nursery and Primary School. They were fatally struck by a speeding Toyota Hiace, registration number UBH-305Z, which was traveling from Soroti to Mbale City.
According to ASP Obukulem Edison, the Public Relations Officer for East Kyoga in a press statement, the accident occurred around 5:45 PM, approximately one kilometer from Soroti High School.
"Eripo Jonathan was pronounced dead at the scene, while Akolla Vivian was rushed to Soroti Referral Hospital, where she passed away later that night at 11:00 PM",
The police swiftly responded to the incident, registering the case under file TAR53/2024 CPS Soroti and the vehicle involved has been towed to CPS Soroti for further inspection meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased were taken to Soroti Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
He also said that,"The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and abandoned the vehicle",
"Police are urging motorists to adhere to traffic laws and road signs to prevent such devastating accidents in the future", he added.
