A night-time journey from Soroti to Kampala turned into a scene of panic on Saturday, 18th July when a Kakise bus of registration number UAS 159P was involved in an accident, leaving several passengers and the driver injured.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. in the Opuyo area of Soroti City.
According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the bus driver was forced to make a sudden, sharp maneuver to avoid striking a pedestrian who was reportedly attempting to cross the road. In the effort to avert a fatal collision with the individual, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the tarmac and plowed into an electric pole.
Local authorities and emergency responders arrived shortly after the crash to secure the area and assist the victims. While the accident caused widespread alarm, officials confirmed that, miraculously, no deaths were registered at the scene.
Several passengers that sustained varying degrees of injuries were rushed to Soroti Regional Referal Hospital for treatment .
Traffic police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Further updates are expected as the victims continue to receive medical care and the wreckage is cleared from the roadside.
