KUMI - The Territorial Police of Central Police Station (CPS) Kumi have launched an investigation into a tragic incident that claimed the life of a young girl in Acaapa Village, Kumi Municipality.
The accident occurred on Fridays at 6:30 PM when a Fuso lorry, registration number UAY 445P, lost control and fatally knocked down 9-year-old pedestrian identified as Jane Naisuli.
According to preliminary reports, the Fuso lorry was en route from Pallisa to Kumi when the driver lost control near Acaapa village, leading to the fatal accident. Unfortunately, Jane Naisuli died instantly at the scene.
Police were quickly notified, and a case was registered under file number TAR 68/2024 at Kumi CPS.
The body of the deceased was transported to Atutur Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination, while the vehicle involved in the accident was impounded and taken to CPS Kumi, awaiting further inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
By press time, the authorities had not yet made any arrests, as the driver of the lorry fled the scene and was still at large.
“We are committed to keeping the public informed as we continue to investigate this incident,” said ASP Obukulem Edison, Acting Public Relations Officer for East Kyoga.
