Kapelebyong, Uganda – Police in Kapelebyong District have launched a manhunt for a suspect who allegedly stabbed his cousin to death following a land dispute.

The incident occurred on February 8, 2025, at around 5:30 PM in Aberan Village, Alito Parish, Alito Sub-County.

According to police reports, the deceased, identified as Owino Julius, 55, was allegedly attacked by his cousin, Olwit Fidel, 56, while walking home. It is alleged that Olwit became violent after Owino refused to allow him to sell family land, leading to a fatal altercation.

The Local Council Chairperson of Aberan Village, Eeru John Emmanuel, reported the incident to the police at 7:30 PM on the same day. Authorities at Kapelebyong Central Police Station (CPS) registered the case under CRB 57/2025 and immediately dispatched a homicide team to the scene.

The suspect, Olwit Fidel, is currently on the run, and police have intensified efforts to apprehend him.

Speaking on the matter, the east kyoga regional police commander Damalie Nachuha confirmed the ongoing investigation and urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement by providing any information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.

"We strongly condemn acts of violence and urge communities to resolve disputes through lawful means rather than taking matters into their own hands," Nachuha stated.
