Soroti City, – Jozan Nursery and Primary School in Soroti City remains closed indefinitely following the tragic death of six-year-old pupil Apio Joan Faith. The school, which was shut down for investigations into the circumstances surrounding the child's death, has left parents in a state of uncertainty, particularly over the issue of school fees refunds.

Apio, who had only been enrolled in the school’s boarding section for three days, was found dead in a locked staff pit latrine with a deep cut on her neck. The discovery has led to widespread concern and anger among the local community, with several key school officials, including the director and headteacher, placed under police custody for questioning.

Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Soroti City East Division, Claire Ayipo, visited the school to update parents on the progress of the investigation. She confirmed that the school would remain closed until further notice as police continued their probe into the tragic death.

"The school environment remains cordoned off, and no one is allowed access. We are working closely with the police to ensure a thorough investigation," Ayipo said during a meeting with concerned parents.

Authorities have assured the public that there has been significant progress in the investigation, with several individuals arrested in connection to the case. However, the closure of the school and the lack of clarity surrounding the future of the students have left parents questioning what will happen next.

A key issue raised by parents during the meeting was the refund of school fees. Many parents had already paid fees for the term, but with the school now closed and no clear timeline for reopening, they are demanding answers.

"We want to know what will happen to our children’s education, and whether we will get a refund for the fees we have already paid," one parent stated.

Ayipo acknowledged the concerns but explained that, due to the current legal situation and the arrests of key school officials, there is little that can be done for now.

"Most private schools, including Jozan, collect fees at the beginning of the term, and unfortunately, we cannot address these concerns until the investigation is concluded," Ayipo explained.

While parents are frustrated by the lack of immediate resolution, they were urged to be patient as authorities work through the investigation and legal process.

The tragic death has sparked public outrage, with members of the community demanding justice for Apio Joan Faith. Local leaders, including Paramount Chief Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot, have condemned the incident, calling for swift legal action.

"This is a heartbreaking and inhumane act. We stand with the parents and demand that justice be served swiftly," Emolot stated.

Meanwhile, parents and local residents gathered outside the school, expressing their anger and frustration. Many are calling for stronger measures to protect children in schools and for greater accountability from school administrators.

As police continue to investigate, the future of Jozan Primary School hangs in the balance. With the school closed and no clear answers regarding fees refunds or the reopening of the institution, parents and students are left in limbo.

Authorities have promised to keep the public updated as more information becomes available, but for now, the community awaits further developments.
