SOROTI CITY - The suspects implicated in the alleged murder of a five-year-old pupil in Soroti City are expected to return to court on Thursday, April 17, 2025, for the mention of their case.

The case, which has drawn widespread public attention, involves the death of Joan Faith Apio, a pupil and twin at Jozan Nursery and Primary School. Her lifeless body was discovered on February 5, 2025, dumped in a latrine within the school premises located in the Eastern Division of Soroti City. The incident sparked national outrage and demands for justice.

The accused individuals include James Edoket, the school’s headmaster; Joseph Okedi, the school director; Suzan Vivian Ariokot, co-director and wife to Okedi; Osula Adongo, the school matron; Valentine Opio, the school cook; John Bosco Obotol, a police officer stationed in Soroti City and brother to Okedi; and two minors, whose identities remain confidential due to their age.

The court session will be held virtually via Zoom and presided over by Grade One Magistrate Apollo Kibirige Kasuja. This format follows previous proceedings aimed at ensuring security and streamlining the judicial process.

The prosecution is actively continuing investigations, while the community watches closely, hoping for justice to be served. The case has triggered renewed calls for tighter regulations and vigilance in ensuring the safety of children within educational institutions.

Further updates are anticipated after Thursday’s court appearance.
