Top leaders of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) have voiced sharp criticism against the Soroti Chief Magistrate’s Court over what they describe as persistent and unjustified delays in the adjudication of their legal cases.
The FDC party president, Patrick Amuriat Oboi, alongside Soroti City MP Joan Alobo and Jonathan Ebwalu, appeared before the Soroti Chief Magistrate's Court on multiple charges, only for the proceedings to be adjourned yet again.
The court session, presided over by Her Worship Hilda Bakanansa Walaga, failed to proceed due to the absence of the state attorney and other procedural uncertainties.
The first case, which involves allegations of the destruction of Jozan Nursery and Primary School in Soroti City’s Eastern Division, was adjourned to May 15, citing the state attorney’s absence.
A second case concerning the controversial “No Cow, No Vote” campaign, featuring all three FDC leaders, was also adjourned to May 29.
After the court session, Amuriat expressed frustration over the “deliberate disruption” of their legal and political engagements.
“This is a total waste of our time and resources. The court was aware of our appearance coinciding with proceedings in the other Courts, yet they still summoned us,” he said.
Amuriat also criticized the financial burden imposed by the repeated travel and court appearances, adding, “They are making us spend money that the government will not refund. This is a terrible mission orchestrated by the court.”
MP Joan Alobo echoed similar sentiments, condemning the repeated delays as an infringement on justice.
It is unjust for a court to continuously adjourn cases without valid reasons. This undermines justice and accountability,” she said.
The FDC leadership has vowed to resist what they characterize as politically motivated judicial harassment, calling for greater transparency and efficiency in the judicial process.
