Kibuku District – The political ground in Eastern Uganda is shifting after over 50 supporters of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) crossed over to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), signaling a major realignment in Kibuku district.

Leading the defection is Naula Manjeri Bole, the former FDC flagbearer for Kibuku Woman MP in the 2021 general elections. The group officially joined the NRM during a high-profile fundraising event held in Gogonyo County, Pallisa district, where they were received by Capt. Mike Mukula, NRM’s National Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Region.

Naula, once a prominent figure in the FDC, publicly handed over her party card and pledged allegiance to the NRM. She attributed her defection to ongoing internal wrangles and ideological confusion within the FDC, coupled with the growing grassroots support the NRM has garnered in Kibuku.

"I made this decision for the good of my people and my political future. The NRM offers structure, vision, and real development. Kibuku deserves better," Naula stated during the event.

Her move is widely seen as a strategic step toward contesting the Kibuku Woman MP seat in the next general election, currently occupied by Hon. Jenipher Kacha Namuyangu. With her growing popularity and now the backing of the ruling party, Naula is expected to mount a strong challenge.

Capt. Mike Mukula, while addressing supporters, welcomed the new members and emphasized the significance of their decision. “Naula’s defection is not just symbolic; it’s a game-changer. It confirms Kibuku as an NRM stronghold and reflects the public's trust in President Museveni’s leadership,” he said.

Mukula further reiterated the party’s goal to eliminate opposition dominance in the region, asserting that the FDC and other parties like NUP are losing relevance. “We are moving toward a united Uganda under NRM. These defections are proof that the people are choosing stability and progress.”

Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Annet Anita Among also added her voice to the development, encouraging more Ugandans to support the NRM. She hinted at more defections expected in the near future, suggesting a weakening opposition and growing momentum for the ruling party ahead of the 2026 elections.

The defection marks a critical turning point in Kibuku’s political environment, with potential ripple effects across Eastern Uganda. As both ruling and opposition parties brace for the next electoral cycle, the impact of these defections will be closely watched.
