Soroti City – The High Court in Soroti has sentenced a 15-year-old boy to two years and six months in a juvenile detention facility after he was found guilty of defiling a two-year and seven-month-old girl.

Presiding over the case, Justice Boniface Wamala stated that although the maximum sentence for a juvenile is three years, the punishment should serve as a deterrent and a moral lesson for the offender. "This sentence is meant to help you grow with discipline and learn from your actions," Justice Wamala said during sentencing.

The court heard that the incident occurred on January 17, 2025, in Asinge Village, Serere District. According to testimony from the victim's mother, the child returned from the accused's home in distress and reported that the boy had poured water on her private parts.

A medical examination presented in court confirmed physical injuries to the child's genital area consistent with sexual penetration, supporting the prosecution’s case.

During mitigation, the juvenile pleaded for leniency, expressing remorse and a desire to return to school and change his behavior.

He will serve his sentence at Mbale Children’s Remand Home.
