Former Bukedea County MP candidate Stephen Ekoom Jr. has issued an open letter to Hon. Monica Amoding, the former Woman Member of Parliament for Kumi district, urging a shift in tone regarding her recent political grievances.

Addressing the aftermath of a contentious election season, the letter serves as a call for reconciliation. It also defends the people of Bukedea against Amoding's claims that particular individuals interfered in her past election

Addressing Amoding directly, Ekoom acknowledged the personal toll of electoral defeat. "I respect your pain and your right to seek justice through the courts. Losing an election is painful, and healing is important," he wrote.

However, Ekoom sharply criticized the tendency to characterize the entire Bukedea district as a hub of electoral misconduct or "bad politics." He argued that equating the actions of a few with the character of an entire population is not only inaccurate but divisive.

"Bukedea is made up of people with different views, both good and bad, just like Kumi and any other district in Uganda," Ekoom stated. "We have people who support different candidates and ideologies. Generalizing an entire district as the source of 'bad politics' risks dividing the Ateker people."

The politician emphasized that the strength of the Teso sub-region lies in its collective unity. He warned that inflammatory rhetoric could jeopardize broader regional development goals, noting that progress can only be achieved when districts like Kumi, Bukedea, Soroti, Ngora, Serere, Katakwi, Pallisa, and Tororo work in harmony.

Ekoom’s intervention comes at a time when political discourse in the region is increasingly polarized. By calling for an end to blanket generalizations, he is positioning himself as a voice for regional cohesion, urging leaders to move beyond the bitterness of past polls.

Concluding his message, Ekoom extended his well-wishes to Amoding as she continues to navigate the legal process regarding her election petition. "We wish you well in your healing and in the legal process," he concluded.
