Kumi district — Former Kumi District Woman Member of Parliament candidate and NRM flag bearer Monicah Amoding has announced plans to challenge the outcome of the recent parliamentary election in court, alleging that political actors from neighbouring Bukedea District interfered in the electoral process to prevent her victory.
In a lengthy statement that has gone viral across WhatsApp groups and social media platforms, Amoding said she had remained silent for nearly six months as she focused on personal healing following the election. She thanked her supporters for standing by her and said she was now ready to pursue legal redress.
Amoding claimed she won the election but was denied victory through what she described as a coordinated scheme involving political opponents and influential figures. She alleged that individuals from Bukedea played a significant role in influencing the outcome of the election in Kumi.
According to her statement, large sums of money were allegedly distributed to voters during the final days of the campaign and on polling day. She further claimed that security personnel and election officials were influenced to frustrate the declaration of her victory.
The former legislator also linked her recent political setbacks to events dating back to the 10th Parliament, when she expressed interest in contesting for the position of Deputy Speaker. She argued that this decision made her the target of powerful political interests determined to block her political advancement.
Amoding further alleged that similar tactics had been used against her during the 2021 general election, claiming that electoral results were manipulated despite what she described as strong support from voters.
She said her legal team is preparing to file an election petition once the Judiciary resumes hearing election-related cases after the court recess. Amoding urged her supporters to remain calm and maintain faith in the legal process, expressing confidence that justice would ultimately prevail.
The statement has attracted widespread attention online, with supporters welcoming her decision to seek legal redress, while others have called for the allegations to be thoroughly investigated through the courts and relevant institutions.
