Soroti City — In the quiet corners of Kichinjaji suburb, the resilient story of Agnes Nakesa, a 52-year-old single mother of nine, has taken a turn from despair to hope — thanks to a compassionate gesture from Isaac Orego, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Soroti City East.

Nakesa, originally from Ngariam Village in Katakwi District, now lives in a modest home in Soroti City where she devotes her life to caring for her 17-year-old daughter, Grace Nansime. Grace became disabled following a severe illness at the age of two, and now requires full-time care.

“She was born normal, but after falling sick with what we thought was malaria, her condition worsened,” Nakesa explained. “Now she cannot walk or care for herself. I’ve had to be by her side every moment since.”

Her already heavy burden grew even heavier after her husband abandoned the family, leaving her to raise nine children single-handedly. Without a steady income or reliable support, Nakesa struggled to meet even the most basic needs.

“Life became unbearable. No food, no healthcare, no money. Some days, we simply went without,” she recounted with emotion.

But her story took a hopeful turn when Isaac Orego visited her home, delivering a package of essential supplies. The donation — which included a mattress and bedsheets, a sack of charcoal, sugar, soap, pampers, and more — was more than a handout. It was a spark of opportunity.

“This gift has changed our lives,” Nakesa said with tears in her eyes. “I’m going to start a small charcoal business with what he brought. I finally see a future for my children.”

Orego, widely recognized for his community-driven initiatives, said his action was part of a broader commitment to inclusive and transformative leadership.

“I believe leadership is about touching lives where it matters most,” Orego noted. “We must build a society that uplifts even its most vulnerable members.”

The story has resonated deeply across Soroti City East, where residents have lauded Orego for offering more than promises — delivering tangible support where it's needed most. Many are now pointing to his approach as a model of practical, empathetic leadership.
