Soroti City – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobilizer for the Teso sub-region, Teddy Acham, has vowed to woo key opposition legislators from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) into the ruling party, signaling what could be a shift in Soroti’s political landscape ahead of the 2026 general elections.

Speaking over the weekend at a fundraising event held at Soroti Sports Ground for the construction of the PAG Cathedral Church, Acham singled out Soroti City Woman MP Joan Alobo Achom and Soroti City West MP Jonathan Ebwalu as targets of her political mission.

“These are good leaders—hardworking and focused—but they are still in the wrong party,” Acham told the crowd. “My mission is to fish them out and bring them home to the NRM.”

Acham argued that regional development could be accelerated if influential local leaders aligned themselves with the ruling party. She reiterated that the NRM remains a welcoming platform for leaders willing to switch allegiances, regardless of their political past.

“We are not enemies in politics,” she added. “But it’s time for leaders like Alobo and Ebwalu to move where progress is being made.”

Her remarks have since stirred political debate in Soroti and beyond, with speculation mounting over possible defections as the country inches closer to the next polls. Neither MP Alobo nor MP Ebwalu has publicly responded to Acham’s statements.

Acham’s comments reflect a broader NRM strategy aimed at consolidating influence in regions traditionally dominated by the opposition. The party has recently stepped up efforts to recruit strong opposition figures in a bid to tighten its grassroots grip across Eastern Uganda.
