The Paramount Chief of the Iteso Cultural Union, His Highness Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng, has called on the people of Teso to elect leaders who demonstrate value and positive impact within their communities.

Speaking to a large congregation at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Soroti City on Sunday, Emolot emphasized the importance of responsible leadership and community-centered representation ahead of the forthcoming electoral season.

“I urge the people of Teso to vote for leaders who understand our values, who live among us, and who work for the betterment of our communities,” said Emolot. “Our progress depends on leaders who are not only educated but also grounded in service and cultural integrity.”

The cultural leader highlighted the need for unity among the Iteso, stressing that development cannot occur in an environment of division or poor leadership. He encouraged the public to assess candidates based on their track record and contribution to societal growth rather than promises and affiliations.

His address was heard by hundreds of worshippers, local leaders, and clergy, marking a significant moment of cultural and spiritual reflection for the region.

Church leaders echoed his message, urging citizens to remain prayerful, vigilant, and active in shaping their political future. Emolot also reiterated the role of the Iteso Cultural Union in promoting peace, cultural identity, and sustainable development.

With the 2026 general elections drawing nearer, the Paramount Chief’s remarks are expected to stir public conversation on leadership accountability and community priorities across the Teso sub-region.

The Iteso Cultural Union continues to play a vital role in uniting and advocating for the interests of the Iteso people, spanning Uganda and across the border.
