The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has officially entered campaign mode after concluding the nomination of 679 aspirants for various political positions across Soroti City. The nomination process, which took place today, was confirmed by Kasiim Ogwang, the Deputy Registrar of the FDC Soroti office.

Ogwang praised the aspirants and organizers for conducting a peaceful and orderly exercise, noting that the discipline exhibited throughout the day reflected the party’s commitment to democratic principles.

“This nomination process was a success. It has demonstrated the strength and readiness of the FDC to offer credible leadership in Soroti,” Ogwang stated.
The nomination event brought forward a diverse and influential lineup of candidates, including sitting leaders, new aspirants, and youth voices determined to make an impact.

Among the notable figures is Juliet Agonyo, the current Speaker of Soroti City Council, who was nominated as a Woman MP aspirant for Soroti City. Speaking after her nomination, Agonyo expressed confidence in her ability to unseat the incumbent, emphasizing the need for leadership that prioritizes development in essential sectors.

“Soroti deserves better in terms of healthcare, education, and infrastructure,” she said. “We need leaders who can bring visible and meaningful development to the city.”

Current Woman MP Joan Alobo Achom also secured her nomination and is seeking a second term. Alobo reaffirmed her commitment to pushing for government-led development projects in Soroti and advocating for compensation for communities affected by past insurgencies.

“I’ve stood firm for Soroti and will continue to push for progress and justice,” she said, urging constituents to support her re-election bid.

The race for mayor has also attracted Edmond Elasu, who emphasized the importance of youthful leadership in transforming Soroti.

“We need a new generation of leaders who understand modern governance and can bring innovation to local government,” Elasu stated. “Soroti is ready for a fresh start.”

Other prominent figures nominated include Patrick Anoku and Jonathan Ebwalu for Soroti City West parliamentary positions, and Paul Omer, the current Mayor of the Eastern Division, who is also vying for a key position.
