Former Woman MP for Soroti District, Hon. Angeline Osege, and Ilemiat Roseline have officially stepped down from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) primaries in favor of the incumbent MP, Hon. Adeke Anna Ebaju. Joyce Akello Anna, Soroti District's FDC Electoral Commission Chairperson, confirmed the development earlier today.
Speaking at the FDC district offices, Akello lauded the two women for exhibiting political maturity and unity, describing their decision as a demonstration of intra-party democracy and sisterhood.
“The two agreed, in the spirit of unity and strategy, to support their colleague Hon. Adeke Anna Ebaju. This is a commendable step and reflects the strength of the party in Soroti,” she stated.
The decision comes after weeks of speculation and competition, with three strong female aspirants initially expressing interest in contesting for the Soroti District Woman MP seat on the FDC ticket.
However, in a surprising turn of events, both Osege and Ilemiat Roseline resolved to support Hon. Adeke, thereby allowing her to proceed unopposed in the party’s primaries.
Sources close to the party leadership revealed that the decision was made following internal consultations aimed at maintaining cohesion and increasing FDC’s chances in the forthcoming general elections.
With this endorsement, Hon. Adeke Anna Ebaju will now focus on preparing for the general election, where she is expected to face candidates from other political parties. The FDC in Soroti believes this move will consolidate support and boost the party’s prospects of retaining the seat.
