Uganda People’s Congress Party has accused the electoral commission of Soroti City West Division of allegedly conducting biased elections against their candidate.

The Confusion has erupted in the National Youth elections in Majengo cell, Majengo ward, Soroti City West division, after controversy surrounds UPC candidate Jonathan Emau, whose name is missing from the electoral commission register.

This development has sparked tension among party members and raised questions about the fairness of the electoral process.

The issue came to light after the NRM candidate tabled a complaint against Emau, alleging that he did not qualify as a voter in Majengo cell.

The Electoral Commission confirmed the complaint, leading to Emau's disqualification from the race. This decision has been met with disappointment and frustration from UPC party members, who feel that the process was unfair.

Caroline Akello, the Youth Councilor for Soroti City West and Deputy Speaker for the division, has strongly disagreed with the actions of the Electoral Commission.

She questions why Emau was disqualified at the last minute due to allegations of changing voting places, when he had been voting from Majengo cell.

Akello finds it particularly puzzling given that her candidate, Jonathan Emou, had been cleared by the Electoral Commission, only to face a similar issue.

The situation highlights potential flaws in the electoral process and raises concerns about the consistency and transparency of the Electoral Commission's decisions.

The UPC party members are seeking clarity on the matter, and the outcome of this dispute may have implications for the legitimacy and credibility of the National Youth League elections in Soroti City West Division.

Caroline Akello accused the Electoral Commission and security officials of bias, alleging they favored Aaron Eucu, the NRM candidate, and unfairly excluded Jonathan Emou from the elections.

Sarah Aryekot, Electoral Commission Supervisor for Soroti City West Division, clarified that electoral guidelines require voters' names to appear on the register.

She stated that investigations revealed Jonathan Emou votes from Gweri, not Majengo Cell, justifying his disqualification.

Aryekot dismissed allegations of bias towards the NRM candidate, emphasizing the Commission's commitment to following electoral rules.

Jonathan Emou, the disqualified candidate, has refused to accept the outcome, claiming he was unfairly robbed of his chance to contest.

He asserts that he was duly nominated by the Electoral Commission for Majengo cell, and disputes the allegations about his voting location.

Aaron Eucu, the elected youth chairperson for Majengo cell, has denied allegations of "robbing" Emou of the election. Instead, he cited the reason for Emou's disqualification as his name not being on the electoral register.

Despite the controversy surrounding the chairmanship position in Majengo cell, the Uganda People's Congress (UPC) emerged victorious in 8 positions in the youth elections.
