Ramathan?Bogere, the current Speaker of Soroti City East Division Council and a seasoned local government leader with over a decade of experience, has formally launched his campaign for Division Mayor under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket. In a fiery media engagement this week, Bogere declared his intention to "clean up the arrogance" he says has plagued NRM’s grassroots structures.
“Some of our cadres have grown distant from the people. Their behavior is worn out. When I become mayor, that stops,” Bogere warned, framing his candidacy as a corrective mission.
He criticized both ruling-party and opposition leaders for under-resourced public services, specifically pointing to the deteriorating state of health centers and schools in the division:
Health care is failing, he argued, noting that everyone—NRM or FDC—deserves access to quality services.
Education standards are slipping, he said, blaming weak supervision and promising tighter oversight as mayor.
Bogere also addressed broader social concerns, pledging to support single mothers and promising to “speak truth to the president” — a stance he believes many local politicians are afraid to take.
He confirmed that his nomination is scheduled for next week, positioning himself to challenge competitors in the upcoming NRM primaries.
The current East Division mayor, Paul Omer of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), has shifted his sights to the Soroti City Mayorship, leaving the division seat open for a high-stakes contest.
Bogere’s platform emphasizes transparency, accountability, and reconnecting political leadership with the community.
