Kaberamaido District – The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kaberamaido, Linos Lotem Tumkori, has issued a strong appeal to the Kumam community to prioritize wealth creation and entrepreneurship as essential tools for combating poverty and driving long-term development.
Speaking during a community engagement event, Tumkori pointed to the district’s persistent poverty, which he attributes to limited participation in income-generating activities and business ventures. He urged residents to shift their mindsets from dependency to productivity, emphasizing that self-reliance through entrepreneurship is the most sustainable path toward economic prosperity.
“The people of Kaberamaido have great potential, but much of it remains untapped due to lack of initiative in wealth creation,” Tumkori noted.
“Many have grown comfortable in their current state, which has resulted in stagnation and minimal growth.”
“We are spiritually strong, but that has not translated into physical wealth,” he said.
“Church leaders must encourage their congregations to engage in business, savings groups, and entrepreneurship.”
A major focus of Tumkori’s message was the youth, whom he described as the engine of transformation in the district. He called upon leaders and educators to sensitize young people on wealth creation, urging them to explore productive ventures and avoid negative influences.
“With the right guidance and empowerment, our youth can become a driving force for development in Kaberamaido,” he added.
“We must equip them with skills and entrepreneurial knowledge that will secure their futures.”
Tumkori’s remarks are part of a broader campaign to instill a culture of economic self-sufficiency and reduce dependency on external aid. He believes that a shift in mindset toward entrepreneurial action will not only elevate individual livelihoods but also lead to the collective prosperity of the Kumam community.
His initiative has been welcomed by several community leaders, who see it as an opportunity to reignite local efforts toward sustainable development.
As Kaberamaido continues to face economic challenges, the RDC’s message serves as a timely wake-up call for all stakeholders to rally around the goal of wealth creation and to invest in the future through business, innovation, and youth empowerment.
