Former Soroti City East Division Member of Parliament and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) aspirant, Hon. Moses Okia Attan, has expressed deep concern over the growing trend of transactional politics in the Teso sub-region, warning that it poses a serious threat to sustainable development and effective leadership.
Speaking in a recent interview, Attan highlighted how the electoral process in the region has increasingly been influenced by short-term political deals and monetary incentives, rather than visionary leadership and genuine development agendas.

"Transactional politics has taken root, especially during election seasons. People are lured by handouts and promises that do not translate into long-term benefits. As a result, we end up with leaders who lack a transformative vision for Teso," Attan stated.

He explained that this culture of electing leaders based on immediate personal gain has led to missed opportunities for real development, particularly in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and youth empowerment.

According to Attan, the region continues to suffer from underdevelopment not because of a lack of resources or potential, but due to leadership that is focused on short-term political survival rather than long-term progress.

The former MP urged voters across Teso to reflect on the consequences of vote selling and to prioritize integrity, competence, and vision when choosing their representatives.

"We must break free from the cycle of electing transactional leaders. Teso needs bold, transformative leaders who are ready to serve the people, not themselves," he said.

As he prepares to contest again for the Soroti City East Division parliamentary seat, Attan reiterated his commitment to championing people-centered policies that focus on inclusive growth and sustainable development for the region.

His message comes at a crucial time, as the region gears up for another electoral cycle amid growing calls for political accountability and reform.
