SOROTI DISTRICT — The race for the Soroti District Local Council V (LCV) Chairperson seat is heating up, with the nomination of Steven Olebe, the current Speaker of Soroti District Council, who will be contesting under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket.

A seasoned local government leader, Olebe brings years of experience and a reputation for consensus-building to the campaign. He will first face the NRM party primaries, where he is considered a strong contender, backed by a platform centered on unity, equitable service delivery, and inclusive grassroots development.

Speaking shortly after his nomination, Olebe stressed the urgent need for bridging ethnic divisions in Soroti—particularly between the Iteso and Kumam communities—and called on residents to rally around a common vision for the district's future.

“My main priority is to foster unity and ensure that all communities in Soroti benefit from government programs, regardless of tribe or background,” Olebe said.

He pointed out persistent gaps in local service delivery, citing poor coordination and exclusion of certain areas from government initiatives. He pledged to change this narrative by focusing on efficiency, transparency, and fairness in the allocation of resources.

“Many people in our communities continue to miss out on essential government initiatives. If elected, I will prioritize equitable distribution of resources and ensure these programs reach every corner of the district,” he added.

Olebe’s campaign emphasizes participatory leadership, citizen engagement, and building trust in local governance systems. His record as District Speaker, he says, has given him the practical knowledge and leadership experience required to address Soroti’s longstanding development challenges.

As the NRM primaries draw near, Olebe’s message is resonating with voters looking for a transformative and unifying figure. His focus on community cohesion, tangible results, and inclusive governance positions him as a formidable candidate in what is expected to be a closely watched and competitive race.

With his nomination now confirmed, Steven Olebe officially enters the contest with a pledge to lead Soroti District into a new era of unity, transparency, and progress.
