Soroti City – Juliet Agonyo, the current Speaker of Soroti City Council and a respected senior figure within the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), has firmly quashed swirling rumors suggesting she had withdrawn from the race for Soroti City Woman Member of Parliament in favor of incumbent Hon. Joan Alobo Achom.

In an exclusive interview, Agonyo categorically dismissed the speculation as “false, unfounded, and politically motivated,” reaffirming her unwavering commitment to contest in the upcoming FDC primaries.

“These are mere distractions aimed at misleading the public and disorganizing my campaign,” Agonyo stated. “Let me make it clear — I am not stepping down. I am fully in the race and more prepared than ever to take on the incumbent.”

A seasoned political leader, Agonyo brings over a decade of grassroots and city-level governance experience. She began her political journey in 2011 and has since served two consecutive terms as Speaker of Soroti City Council. Before Soroti attained city status, she also represented the area as a Woman Councilor, giving her deep familiarity with local governance issues and community needs.

Agonyo’s influence extends beyond Soroti; she currently serves as Treasurer of the Association of Speakers across Uganda — a role that underscores her national credibility and leadership acumen.

Her supporters describe her as a committed servant leader and a breath of fresh air, poised to bring renewed energy and strategic advocacy to Soroti’s representation in Parliament. Many within the FDC see her candidacy as a strong challenge to the incumbent, Joan Alobo, who has served one term in office.

As the primary campaigns heat up, Agonyo has called on party members and the wider electorate to stay alert and resist political misinformation.

“The people of Soroti deserve a transparent process and leaders who stand by their word. I will be on the party primaries, and I’m ready to win,” she affirmed.

With the political temperature rising in Soroti, all eyes are now on the FDC primaries, where Juliet Agonyo is highly anticipating to emerge as a frontrunner in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive race.
