As the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries draw closer, political momentum is rapidly shifting in Akoromit Sub-county, Kapelebyong District, where residents have declared overwhelming support for Woman MP aspirant Adupo Florence, popularly known as "Icoroko."
With the primaries set for July 17, Adupo’s growing popularity has become a focal point in the race to unseat incumbent Jacinta Atuto. Residents say they are ready for new leadership that addresses their longstanding challenges, citing disappointment with previous leaders who, according to locals, “only appear during elections and disappear afterward.”
During a campaign event in Akoromit, Adupo was received with great enthusiasm by crowds comprising youth, women, and elders. Community members expressed their trust in her ability to deliver better services and uplift the district. “We have suffered for years with empty promises. This time, we are voting for Adupo because she understands our struggles,” said one resident.
In her speech, Adupo outlined her vision for a more inclusive and service-oriented leadership. A key part of her agenda includes improving access to clean water. “Women walk long distances to fetch water. I will procure a water bouncer to supply water during events," she pledged.
She also addressed the issue of transportation for community functions and emergencies, promising to secure vehicles for public use. “Our people should not be stranded. I will ensure there are vehicles available for events like weddings or funerals. The community will only need to fuel them,” she added.
Adupo also vowed to prioritize education by lobbying for improved school infrastructure, better learning conditions, and equitable access to quality education across the district. “Other regions are developing because their leaders fight for them. But here in Kapelebyong, we have been treated like orphans. That ends with me,” she said.
Her message has resonated strongly with residents who are eager for practical, grassroots-focused leadership. Community elders and youth leaders have praised her as a leader who not only listens but also acts.
With less than two weeks to the NRM primaries, Adupo Florence’s surge in support signals a potential political shake-up in Kapelebyong District. If the current momentum continues, she could be poised to clinch the party flag and possibly reshape the district’s political landscape.
