Kalaki District - Monica Asako, daughter of the late Brig. Gen. Charles Oluka—former head of Uganda’s Internal Security Organization—has emerged as a rising political force in Kalaki District as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries approach on July 17.

On Saturday, July 12, Asako hosted a high-energy rally in Ocelakur Sub County that drew large crowds from Sangai, Ocelakur, and Ipenet Parishes. The event marked a pivotal moment in her campaign for the NRM flag for Woman Member of Parliament, signaling growing momentum behind her candidacy.

Speaking before a packed gathering of enthusiastic supporters, Asako outlined a bold development agenda rooted in transparency, inclusive governance, and economic empowerment. Her manifesto emphasized four key pillars: improving access to healthcare, strengthening education infrastructure, fostering youth and women’s empowerment, and supporting agriculture and local enterprises.

“I am here to serve, to listen, and to lead with integrity,” Asako said. “We must build a future where every woman, youth, and farmer in Kalaki has a real opportunity to thrive.”

Her message resonated strongly with the crowd. Titus Eteru, a resident of Sangai, described Asako as “a God-sent leader” with the capacity to bring meaningful change to Kalaki. “She’s grounded, she listens, and she understands what the people need,” he said.

Janet Apiny from Ipenet Parish called Asako’s vision “a breath of fresh air,” adding, “Her focus on grassroots development gives us hope. We believe in her.”

The rally also featured cultural performances and music from local artists, including the popular Cool Ug, creating a festive atmosphere that reflected the community’s rising confidence in Asako’s leadership.

Beyond her family legacy, Asako’s growing popularity is rooted in her accessibility and message of inclusive development. Her ability to connect with a wide spectrum of the electorate—from elders to the youth—has positioned her as a formidable contender in the NRM primaries.

As the race intensifies, political analysts and community leaders alike are watching closely. Many see Asako not only as a frontrunner in the primaries but also as a transformative figure who could reshape Kalaki District’s political and socio-economic landscape.

If elected, Asako has pledged to work closely with local leaders and development partners to implement sustainable programs that address long-standing community challenges.

With just days left until the primaries, all eyes remain on Kalaki District, where a new chapter in political leadership may be about to begin.
