Isaac Orego has secured the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag for the Soroti City East parliamentary seat, following a commanding win in the party primaries held this week.

The results, officially declared on Thursday by Justin Okello, the NRM Soroti Electoral Commission Returning Officer, saw Orego claim a decisive lead with 3,179 votes representing 44% of the total ballots cast. His closest contender, Okwii John Junior Ekutelek, garnered 2,111 votes, followed by Egunyu Moses with 1,230. Other candidates included Elaju James Herbert Yoweri, who received 482 votes, and Adakun Simon Richard, who trailed with 196.

Orego’s victory was met with jubilation from his supporters, who turned out in large numbers to celebrate his success. He expressed deep gratitude to the voters for their confidence in his leadership and for entrusting him with the party’s flag ahead of the 2026 general elections.

“I am humbled and honored by the overwhelming support from the people of Soroti City East,” Orego said while addressing the media shortly after signing the declaration form. “This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to every supporter who believes in the NRM’s mission for development and transformation.”

The returning officer, Justin Okello, commended the candidates and voters for conducting the primary in a peaceful and orderly manner.

With the NRM flag now in hand, Orego is set to campaign against other party candidates in the forthcoming general elections. His strong grassroots support and wide margin of victory have positioned him as a formidable contender to represent Soroti City East in the 12th Parliament.

The NRM primaries continue across the country as the party finalizes its lineup of candidates for the 2026 elections.
