One person has been confirmed dead and four others are in critical condition following a fatal accident that occurred early Monday morning along the Katosi-Nyenga road.
The tragic incident, involving a Scania bus (registration number UA 354AN) belonging to Gateway company, happened at approximately 1:30 AM in Katovu, Ngongwe. The bus was en route from Kampala to Soroti via the Katosi route when the accident occurred.
According to Michael Kananura, the police traffic spokesperson, preliminary investigations indicate that a front tyre burst caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The bus subsequently overturned onto its right side.
Mr. Kananura confirmed that the driver died on the spot. The four injured passengers sustained critical conditions and were swiftly rushed to Nkonkojeru Health Center IV and Kawolo Hospital for urgent medical attention.
The body of the deceased driver has been transported to Kawolo Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
The overturned bus has been secured and taken to Ngongwe Police Station as investigations into the full circumstances surrounding the accident continue.
