Kampala – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission has officially announced Oucor Phillip as the party’s flag bearer for the upcoming elections in Pingire County. The declaration was made today by NRM Electoral Commission Chairman Tanga Odoi at the party headquarters in Kampala.
Oucor Phillip secured a decisive victory with 7,503 votes (42%), emerging as the clear favorite among the contestants. His closest rival, Ojit Peter, polled 6,509 votes (37.2%), followed by Opolot Fred with 1,976 votes (11.3%). Other candidates, including Abuka (1,173 votes, 6.7%), Olupot Ambrose (238 votes, 1.4%), and Omedo (98 votes, 0.6%), trailed significantly.
The announcement came after a tense vote-tallying process in Pingire County Serere District, where supporters of various candidates eagerly awaited the results. The NRM Electoral Commission confirmed that the process was free and fair, despite the heated competition.
In his statement, Tanga Odoi congratulated Oucor Phillip on his victory and urged all party members to rally behind him for a united front in the forthcoming elections. “The people of Pingire have spoken, and the NRM respects their choice. We call upon all candidates and their supporters to embrace unity as we prepare for the next phase,” Odoi said.
Oucor Phillip, in his acceptance speech, thanked the delegates and pledged to work tirelessly to deliver victory for the NRM in Pingire County. “This is not just my win; it is a victory for all NRM supporters in Pingire. Together, we shall ensure the party’s success,” he stated.
With the flag bearer now confirmed, the NRM shifts focus to the general elections, where Oucor Phillip will face off against opponents from other political parties. Analysts predict a highly competitive race, given the strong showing of runners-up in the primaries.
