In a pivotal moment for the Serere District election, Acom Esther Lucy, a candidate for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the contest for Woman MP, has urged voters to remain calm as the NRM tribunal prepares to hear her petition regarding alleged electoral malpractice.
The hearing is scheduled for 11 am on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
Acom’s petition raises serious allegations against the electoral process during the very recent polls held on July 17, 2025.
These include claims of forgery and falsification of results, as well as concerns that her agents were unlawfully removed from polling stations and that voters were denied their right to choose their preferred candidate.
Acom contends that the district registrar, William Olir, declared the incumbent MP, Hon. Adoa Hellen Abeku, the winner without a valid basis.
"We must stay hopeful during this process," Acom stated, emphasizing the need for patience and unity among her supporters.
The call for calm has resonated within the community, as many express optimism about a favorable outcome.
A significant number of voters believe that the battle is far from over, with sentiments such as "the war is not yet over" echoing through local conversations.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, Olir has been arrested and is currently facing serious charges of forgery and falsification of election declaration forms.
The prosecution, led by State Attorney Paul Okello, alleges that Olir manipulated the election results at the NRM tally center in Serere, further underscoring the integrity issues raised by Acom.
As the scheduled hearing approaches, the Serere District community remains hopeful for justice and a resolution that reflects the true will of the people.
